Today's Notes:
- bags do really check all the way from TX through WA to CA
- if you have a boarding pass for the connecting flight, you can go outside security to meet a friend and they will let you back in
- the person sitting in the seat beside you on the plane will have no interest in your email, but will not be able to look away if you play Plants vs. Zombies on your laptop
- mountains poking above a solid layer of clouds looks amazing but unfortunately will not turn out that way in the digital picture
- SEA-TAC is yet another airport that does not have enough power plugs near chairs
- do not sit too close to a closed door no matter how much you need the power plug
- Starbucks chai makes the headache go away and thus the world becomes a clearer, more cheerful place

Getting up at 5:30 am does not do wonders for my cognitive abilities. And I'm off caffeine in an effort to have a hand injury hurt less. Which all leads to me being in line at the DFW airport, with coat and shoes off and in bin, computer and assorted electronics in bin, and as I pat down my pockets one last time time while I'm in line to go through the scanner archway I realize I still have my pocket knife.

It's a really cool pocket knife: a Spyderco Delica, 2 7/8" blade (so it's legal in California), combo blade edge, given to me by my boyfriend.

It is in no way, shape, or form, cool to take through airport security.

I usually shove it in my checked bag before checking that bag, but that just didn't happen this time. As I despaired about loosing my knife forever, a TSA agent looked my way and on a gamble, I showed him the knife and apologized for being stupid. He asked if I wanted to mail it home - $9.95 - a bargain compared to replacing the knife. Point for TSA guy. All of my bins had already be shuttled through on the conveyor belt so he and another TSA agent brought them back to me. And said I could keep all of my stuff in them. And let me out through the line. And showed me how to use the mailer and the order form. And told me to come back to the head of the line to get back into the security section.

This guy earned so many points. And I didn't get his name.

But I wanted to put out a record of this event because TSA agents don't get a lot of good press. And sometimes they should.

REMAINING ATCS FOR 2009 AEDM & XMAS PLANS

I got seriously sick over Thanksgiving which pretty much wiped out that holiday and all the things I was going to do during those days off from the day job. Then it took a week to really recover from the sickness and catch-up.

Part of the catch-up was creating more artist trading cards for the Art Every Day Month project I was participating in. And that catch-up lasted into December.

I'm glad I made the effort for AEDM this year, as I now have a nice buffer of ATCs for my Writer Shelves posts. I also somehow skipped #23 and #24, so let that be our little secret. ^_-

Instead of having the individual posts imported from flickr, I'm just putting up scans of the remaining cards. Clicking on the image will take you the to LJ gallery page, clicking on the image gain will show larger version.

Now I must go pack long underwear, sweaters, and Christmas presents as I'm vising my family in the Great White (Cold) North AKA Canada. This is the first time all of my immediate family (all 8 of us) will be in the same place in many years. I don't like the cold, or the static, or the unpaid time off, but if my sister can fly in from Mongolia, the least I can do is come up from Texas.

And it will be fun to see everyone. They will go skiing while I sit by the fire and read or write. They will cook and I will eat. We're going out to a friend's back 40 to cut down our Xmas tree and bring it home to be decorated. My mom quilted the tree skirt. My dad will take many pictures. Hopefully the dog doesn't take out too many ornaments, as this is the first year since my parents retired up there that she will have seen a Christmas tree since they usually just decorate one of their outside trees with lights.

Did I mention sitting by the fire, reading, writing, and eating?

Amazon is having an amazing sale on SCiFi DVDs, even some Blu-Rays. If you're missing any Stargate Atlantis or Stargate SG-1 seaons ($15-19/season), or a copy of Dreamscape (come on, it's only $6 ;), then this is the sale for you.

And I seriously hope to find an internet connection for at the airport this evening because I'll be missing the broadcast of the new Stargate Universe ep, and watching that would be a great way to occupy myself for an hour during the flight to LA.

If you haven't seen last weeks SGU ep "Time" I highly recommend it. It's great to see how the writers can leverage a "thing" that has been established in SG-1, used again slightly differently in SGA, and then re-purposed in SGU. And this ep has the best ending of any Stargate ep I think I've ever seen.

SGA WINNING MV ONLINE

I've tweeted and email about this, so now for the LJ post, because it's been hours since I opened up the envelope and saw the winning gift certificate and I'm *still* bouncy happy about it.

My Stargate Atlantis music video of Robert Picardo singing "Man of la Mancha" to Woolsey footage was one of the winners at the Creation Stargate SG-1/Stargate Atlantis convention in LA a few weeks ago.

I also won a spot in their fan music video contests in Chicago and in Vancouver, which means I swept their SG-1/SGA conventions this year.
